Examples of life-threatening emergencies include:

  • Being hit by a vehicle or experiencing major trauma
  • Severe difficulty or labored breathing
  • Collapse, unresponsiveness, or continuous seizures
  • Excessive or uncontrolled bleeding
  • Inability to urinate or repeated unsuccessful attempts to urinate
  • Suspected toxin or poison ingestion
  • Severe trauma, bite wounds, or fractures
  • Egg binding or prolapse
  • Heat stroke or severe hypothermia
  • Significant bloating or a severely swollen abdomen
  • Any pet that is extremely weak, unable to stand, or has stopped eating and is rapidly declining
